A significant fire erupted in a plastic warehouse located in Sujapur of the Kaliachak police station area, causing the destruction of plastic waste and products valued at several lakhs of rupees. The fire, which broke out in the plastic factory owned by Abtar Hussain alias Putur, was eventually brought under control by two fire brigade vehicles after an extended struggle.
The factory, which was a hub for collecting plastic bangles from various parts of the Malda district, quickly became engulfed in flames, spreading panic in the densely populated locality.
Following the fire incident, local residents started advocating for the establishment of a fire station in the Kaliachak area. The absence of a nearby fire station added to the problems in tackling the situation.
The fire not only disrupted the business but also affected the livelihoods of 30 to 40 women who were employed in the factory.
